I used to want to forget. I don’t anymore. Forgetting is not only futile but also time-consuming and distracting.
What should be the prayer and is now is not to forget but to minimize importance and impact and give God His due and proper first place in every thought, situation and action. Never forgotten but never ever again taking the place of God. That is the goal. And God has given me this. Praise God! It can be done. God is greater!❤❤❤
I have a lot of responsibility. This is nothing new to me but there are some tricks I have learned in handling them all. I prioritize. It is manageable when you take the time to figure out which tasks get first attention and which can fall through the cracks. At one point, you will have to make that decision and if you have thought it through and decided ahead of time, it is less stressful when it happens.
For instance, first priority to me is what has eternal value or consequences. Therefore, church and devotions and prayer get top billing. If my kids want to talk about the Lord, I drop everything else and have that discussion. Church times are precious and I take my responsibility as curch pianist and ladies’ Sunday School teacher very seriously and prepare and am there on time. I don’t sleep in and miss church ever. Some days I would like to but serving God is more important than my comfort.
Then my kids and husband’s health and well being is next priority because my primary role after being a follower of Jesus Christ is being a wife and mother. I cook for my kids and keep the house clean enough to be healthy, I teach, I assist, I encourage and value them. If they are ill, I nurse them to health and pray with them. I incorporate my first priority into my second, showing them God’s love consistently and teaching when I can.
Then comes everything else. And everything else happens keeping in mind the first two priorities.
The head of everything should be God. This is His rightful place because He made everything and is in charge of our eternity also. And He is amazing and loving and truly good, so that makes it wonderful and everything else easier.
No one is perfect, and I don’t always succeed, but success happens much more often when you have goals correct.❤
Busy moments are mostly behind us now and I am gradually catching up on chores and getting back to full days of school and house cleaning and groceries. There certainly are a lot of “normal” duties this housewife handles. Thank God for watering my garden for me as the poor neglected plants would have looked their neglect if it weren’t for God who sent rain and cared for them. A little weeding and we’ll be back on track there. And I caught up on great blogs I had missed… thankfully they were in print and saved for me to catch up on.
These were busy 2 weeks. That was an understatement. I ignored all tech and my phone for days, just did life and birthday parties (that I make a lot of) and dinners and meetings, some consults, starting the Christmas songs with the kids at church (making me the kids choir director now), pe coaching, missionary meeting in Avon Park, Busch Gardens, homemade pies and cakes for birthdays, sticking to my diet so cooking separately for my meals, baseball games, fasting and prayer, all so hectic and crazy.
And the biggest take – away from busy times in life is this:… (dramatic pause… deep breath)… God is with me wherever I go and I can talk to Him all the time. So simple. He loves the big things we do for Him and the million tiny things we do for Him. We just keep Him first. And I used to get behind in my spirit when I got busy and as a leader and worker by nature, busy used to be distractions away from God. But praise God, He has transformed and corrected that thinking and helped me embrace how He made me. I am His and He is always with me. And my busy is worship to Him because I include Him in it all and keep Him first and most n important in my mind and heart. ❤
When things are in this proper alignment, God first and home second, you have peace at home. You have peace in life and contentment in any circumstances. God being first is actually the key. That means God comes before everyone. My time and conversation with God is first priority, His Word is first read of the day, His worship is first priority of life. This is clicking into the power source of truth and appreciation and love and, well, power. Then family in the home is next, those entrusted to your personal care. They get first dibs on your time and energy, and because of the time spent recharging with God, you have more energy and proper perspective and outlook for them. Then what is left of you goes to help serve those around you and the church. There should be many to help there, so that is lower priority for me personally. And when things are difficult, what you give up first is the outside world, never time with God. You cannot run long on high power without recharging, so you cannot fight a difficult battle without recharging with God daily. Just a thought.
“Seek first God’s kingdom and what God wants. Then all your other needs will be met as well.” – Matthew 6:33
