Greedy fingers grab for more,
Never are content.
One person’s stuff they have to have
Never quite content.
Formulating how to get
More of everything,
They set out to abolish peace
Just so they succeed.
Narcissistic are these lost, sad souls;
They should not marry
For who can love them more than they
Who take more than they carry.
Stay away from greedy ones
They destroy in moments
What took you years to save up for
To them it is their dues.
Do not be like them, dearest friends,
Enjoy what you are given.
Appreciate all that you own
And wait for gold ’til heaven.❤
The ugliness of greed and discontentedness is prevalent right now. Prevalent and decidedly so. We are in an atmosphere of just one more thing. Amazingly wonderful people of the faith are doing it to. In helping care for my mom, as I leave she suddenly has 20 more one more things for me to do for her. And I see her every day! My children want one more thing to play with or sweet to eat or whatever. I myself want one more moment alone. It is everywhere. I wish there was a pill to take to cure us all of this malady, but we do have some tools to use for this purpose. We have our brains which we can refocus by saying simply, “I have what I need and am thankful for it!” We have the Word to guide us and renew our minds. We have the power of the Holy Spirit Who loves helping us when we humbly ask Him to. We also have the ability to look away from new things and be thankful for that which we already have. Contrary to popular believe we do not deserve every luxury known to man simply because we exist. When we have what we need- air, shelter, clothes, shoes, food- we must start undoing the “one more thing” problem by just being thankful for having our needs met. Then, any extra is just bonus and cause for celebration. That is the attitude I want and not that which wants more. I want contentment and peace and will fight myself for it, using my trusty tools. We are never alone where we are obeying and trying to humbly do God’s will.
Some silliness just came to my attention in my church. There was a dispute between the pastor and the music director. Both are very good at their jobs, respectively. However, they are unable to agree about something in particular. What that is is of no importance. I am reminded, however, of the fragility of human beings and how damaging silly behavior is when our pride gets in there and fights harder than we allow God’s Spirit to fight for us. If we just get out of the way, God will work beautiful “magic”. If we allow our silly selves to guide us and our tongues, however, bad things happen, like our music director leaving. This should not be!! How do 2 men of mature faith allow pride to divide them? Both are strong and mean well. I long to scream, “What is wrong with you two? Why on earth do you think any of what you do is all about you? It is about God’s kingdom expansion and NOT YOU! Get over it!!” Will I do that? Time will tell, but what needs to be said to the kingdom at large- get over yourself. God’s church is absolutely not, under any circumstances, for you, no matter who you are. It is for Him. If you can’t handle that, get out of it so the church can grow!!!!
